Dear Members and Visitors of the BOU Website,

Due to some questions and comments posted on the new forum, we feel it necessary to address an important issue. It seems that many are confusing BOU with other existing organizations, namely Utah Bowmen's Association (UBA). While we strive to work collectively with all organizations that have similar goals and objectives, we feel that it is imperative that those visiting our website understand that we are 2 separate organizations. And we feel that it is important that hunters in Utah have a choice of organizations that they will support and use to voice their hunting opinions.

As stated Previously; Bowhunters of Utah (BOU) is dedicated to promoting bowhunting opportunities throughout this great state. Furthermore, Bowhunters of Utah believes that bowhunters are underutilized as a tool in sound biological management.

Bowhunting can and should play a more important role in the overall big game and once in-a-lifetime hunt management. Through education, service projects, and involvement in our Regional Advisory Councils, Bowhunters of Utah will work to help educate decision makers to this end.

As long as their objectives and goals coincide with BOU, we will continue to work together with UBA and all other organizations to better the situation in Utah for bowhunters and for wildlife. These are our core beliefs. A strong united front is vital to the sustained and improved bowhunting here in Utah. With your help, we can and will provide a sound and positive hunting situation for our posterity. We look forward to working with you to achieve these goals. Thank you for your time and support and good luck this hunting season.

Sincerely,

Bowhunters Of Utah (BOU)

Bowhunters of Utah History PDF Print E-mail

In the spring of 2006 a small group of dedicated bowhunters met to discuss some serious issues with the wildlife decision making process in Utah. Many of us had worked with other groups and organizations in an effort to bring bowhunting to the forefront, with little to no effect. After several in-depth meetings; it was decided that a new organization focusing solely on bowhunting and bowhunter’s interests was needed to address the concerns of our sport in the state of Utah.

We all chipped in and hired a lawyer to begin the process to set up a 501-(c)3 organization that would stand for our two guiding principals. Is it good for bowhunting and is it good for wildlife.  By-laws were drafted and approved, organizational decisions were made to enable members to become informed and involved and by July, Bowhunters of Utah was a legal registered entity.

From that time forward we have learned how to work in the RAC system, welcomed any help from other groups that share our values and principles and have extended a hand to bowhunters from across the state of Utah in a unifying effort to accomplish our mission.  In each year of our existence our membership numbers have doubled, our influence has increased and our resolve has held strong.  We have successfully defended our bowhunting opportunity in each year of our existence.  We have become recognized by the Utah DWR as a major contributor towards input for wildlife decisions.  We take our responsibilities seriously and have networked with many other groups in the effort to fulfill our mission.  Simply put, we have moved forward with a keen resolve to bring about positive change for bowhunters and bowhunting in Utah.

Bowhunters of Utah is a collection of passionate bowhunters seeking to provide a voice that will defend bowhunting, stand up for sound biological wildlife management, and further promote the use of bowhunting in wildlife management in Utah.  We invite you to leave your mark on our history by becoming an active member of BOU and serving on one or more of the various committees and leadership positions of our (all bowhunters in Utah) organization.  Together we can address the concerns of today and lay the foundations of a bright tomorrow.

Small Buck along the wasatch front

Fellow bowhunters, Utah has a proud historical bow hunting heritage. The first “official” bow hunt in Utah was held in 1941. According to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, 61 archers participated in that first-ever hunt.

During the 70s and 80s, the two-buck season brought numerous people to the bowhunt. Later, the ‘choose your weapon’ season decreased the amount of participants in the bowhunt. Now, there are 16,000 general archery season deer hunters, 158 limited entry archery season deer hunters, 9,000 general archery season elk hunters, 386 limited entry archery season elk hunters and 95 limited entry archery season antelope hunters.
