In
the spring of 2006 a small group of dedicated bowhunters met to discuss some
serious issues with the wildlife decision making process in Utah. Many of us
had worked with other groups and organizations in an effort to bring bowhunting
to the forefront, with little to no effect. After several in-depth meetings; it
was decided that a new organization focusing solely on bowhunting and
bowhunter’s interests was needed to address the concerns of our sport in
the state of Utah.
We all chipped in and hired a
lawyer to begin the process to set up a 501-(c)3 organization that would stand
for our two guiding principals. Is it good for bowhunting and is it good for
wildlife. By-laws were drafted and approved, organizational decisions
were made to enable members to become informed and involved and by July,
Bowhunters of Utah was a legal registered entity. From that time forward we have
learned how to work in the RAC system, welcomed any help from other groups that
share our values and principles and have extended a hand to bowhunters from
across the state of Utah in a unifying effort to accomplish our mission.
In each year of our existence our membership numbers have doubled, our
influence has increased and our resolve has held strong. We have
successfully defended our bowhunting opportunity in each year of our
existence. We have become recognized by the Utah DWR as a major
contributor towards input for wildlife decisions. We take our
responsibilities seriously and have networked with many other groups in the
effort to fulfill our mission. Simply put, we have moved forward with a
keen resolve to bring about positive change for bowhunters and bowhunting in
Utah. Bowhunters of Utah is a collection
of passionate bowhunters seeking to provide a voice that will defend
bowhunting, stand up for sound biological wildlife management, and further
promote the use of bowhunting in wildlife management in Utah. We invite
you to leave your mark on our history by becoming an active member of BOU and
serving on one or more of the various committees and leadership positions of our
(all bowhunters in Utah) organization. Together we can address the
concerns of today and lay the foundations of a bright tomorrow.
