Saturday May 1st BOU had a great time with the Red Rock Archers as we participated in a shoot that was also sponsored by the RMEF down in the St. George area. The 3d range was simply a blast. 4 of the shots were from elevated positions (tree stands) some 16 feet in the air shooting at 3d animals in the bottoms of some wash-outs. Others were uphill/downhill with vegetation that clouded the shooters vision creating a host of challenging shots. This was my son’s first 3d course and up to this point his interest has been marginal at best but he had so much fun that he was talking about the next shoot. It was great to see full families as well as friends and hunting partners come together for the event. It’s not always about the shooting as there are always great stories to be told about good times, old hunts and exciting adventures. It always seems like the traditional gang here has something for me to try out. This year they taught me some more about the finer points in sight picture. Talk about a group of great guys!
Later that night BOU ran a game at the RMEF banquet. BOU was able to donate the money raised directly to the RMEF in the effort to secure more habitat funding. Trev Smith (Southern BOU committee chair) addressed the audience introducing who BOU is and urged banquet attendee’s to participate, and participate they did. By the evenings end all but 6 cans of pop had been sold for the cause.
It was a lot of fun for all those who attended. Banquet organizers, Scott Walker and Tom Hooker always do such a wonderful job. (Scott pictured left) We can’t thank the RMEF and the Red Rock Archers enough for inviting us to participate. We look forward to this event every year. A special shout out to Trev Smith for organizing the details and coordinating the event! He is doing a super job in the Southern Committee. We hope to see you all next year.
