Just about time to go! As you run through that list of gear to take with you on the hunt, don’t forget the camera! Our gallery needs a bunch of new photos and as always, we’re eager to read your stories. Please consider writing something for our next newsletter, too.
We’ve received some questions about the changes this year, so to clarify for some and to remind the rest:
You must only hunt deer within the boundaries of your region until Sept. 2. Then you can hunt any area in the state that's still open to general season archery buck deer hunting. Regional boundary descriptions are available here.
The following units will be closed to deer hunting starting Sept. 2: Central Mountains (Nebo), Oquirrh-Stansbury, South Slope (Vernal), La Sal (La Sal Mountains), Monroe. Unit boundary descriptions are available here.
You cannot hunt deer in the Wasatch Extended area before Sept. 2 unless you have a Central region permit. As always, you must complete the online ethics course before hunting the extended area. The online ethics course is available here.
There is a new extension to the Wasatch Extended area this year. In the past, the boundary followed the Salt Lake-Summit county line. But this year, it follows the Wasatch-Summit county line to US-40, north on US-40 to I-80, then west on I-80 to rejoin the previous boundary on the Salt Lake-Summit county line. This new area offers some great new access including legal walk-in access to land that was posted in the past. But be careful - that access is limited. Please do your part to keep this new area open to bowhunters by being sure of your location and respecting private property at all times. See our access map for more details, here (Must be a registered user, Click Here to Register): Wasatch Front Access Points
Good luck out there and above all, be safe!
